PE and Sport at Whittington CE (VA) Primary School is highly valued for its extraordinary ability to improve and maintain a child’s physical, mental and social well-being.
We believe exposing our children to frequent high quality and structured PE not only improves overall well-being, but also encourages creativity, reduces stress, helps improve concentration and builds social skills.
Through PE our AIM is to teach creative and enjoyable lessons that everyone is contributing towards. By doing this we hope to develop social able, happy and healthy children who leave Whittington CE (VA) Primary School with a thirst for sport and the necessary physical skills added to their “Toolkit for Life”.
Sport Premium
Schools must use PE and sport premium funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport on offer.
This means that schools should use the premium to:
There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
Specialist Sports Coach
Whittington CE (VA) Primary School utilise their sports premium to employ a fulltime sports coach. Having a PE specialist delivering high quality PE ensures that every child is receiving continuity and consistency within our PE curriculum. It provides the unique opportunity for one individual to assess, oversee and nurture the whole development of each child whilst on their PE journey within our school.
This also ensures that each child has the opportunity to participate within a greater range of sports, increases participation, help forge close relationships with the local community and displays a positive role model to promote the love of sport.
Development Through Competition
We have a proud history of consistently competing in the North Shropshire Education Improvement Partnership (EIP) sports calendar. Using it as an opportunity to learn and develop through competitive competition.
Alongside the EIP calendar we regularly hold sports festivals to create opportunities for all children to compete and represent the school within an inter school competition.
Each term we host a house sports week focussing on the sport we have been doing for that term. This is a great opportunity for the pupils to put the skills we have learnt to practice, but also win points for their houses.
Sports Day
Sports day is always a spectacular event at Whittington. All year the children compete for their houses to win points. The points are then carried through to Sports Day and an overall winner is announced in the afternoon. In the morning the children spilt up in to their houses and compete within field events such as Discuss, Long jump, Javelin etc. to earn as many points as possible for their houses. Then in the afternoon, parents arrive to cheer during the Rainbow Races.
